MALDEN – The Malden Police and Mayor Gary Christenson are welcoming their newest cadet, Illyas Hattal, to the department. In 2000, the Morrocan-born Hattal along with his parents and two younger sisters emigrated to the United States. He has lived in Malden, and he is fluent in Arabic. He is slated to receive his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Bunker Hill Community College this spring, and will continue his studies at UMass Boston. Illyas will work at the front office of the Police Department assisting with constituent matters and completing a variety of tasks and assignments. He will gain invaluable experience and exposure to many aspects of law enforcement. [clear] [clear]
